Terms of use
Your use of ThriftHound is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"); these terms add what's specific to ThriftHound and the Standard EULA wins if they conflict. In plain English: ThriftHound's identifications and values are AI estimates from photos. They are not appraisals, and you make your own decisions about buying, selling and insuring.
1. Who these terms are with
ThriftHound is provided by Vision Forge Studios ("we", "us"). Apple isn't responsible for ThriftHound or its content, except as set out in the Standard EULA.
2. Subscriptions
ThriftHound is free to download and includes 3 free scans. After that, scanning needs an auto-renewing subscription through the App Store: yearly ($29.99 a year in the US, with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers) or monthly ($6.99 a month in the US, no trial). Prices elsewhere are shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm; with the trial, the first payment is charged when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period; manage or cancel any time in iOS Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions. If you allow notifications we remind you before the trial ends. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Fair use: up to 40 scans a day.
3. Values are estimates, not appraisals
Value ranges in ThriftHound are automated estimates of what similar items typically sell for, based on general market information and what the photos show. They are not appraisals, offers, quotes or guarantees, and they can be wrong. They don't account for everything that sets a real price: hidden damage, restoration, authenticity, provenance, exact size or edition, local demand, timing, fees and shipping. Don't rely on them alone to buy, sell, insure, divide an estate or settle a dispute. For valuable items, consult a qualified appraiser. We aren't responsible for decisions you make based on an estimate, or for what you pay or receive for any item.
4. Identifications are estimates
Identifications, makers, dates, marks read from photos, "Could also be" suggestions and "Check before you buy" tests are AI estimates and can be wrong. Reproductions, reissues and fakes are common and can fool a camera. Check marks and details in hand, and with reference guides or experts for anything that matters.
5. Checks and safety
Suggested checks (a magnet, a black light, a magnifier) are simple and non-destructive; use common sense, and never damage a piece you don't own. Some vintage items can be hazardous, for example lead paint or glazes on dishes, radium paint on old dials, or asbestos in old appliances. ThriftHound may mention this, but it isn't a safety assessment.
6. Restricted items
ThriftHound doesn't value weapons, ammunition, ivory, tortoiseshell or other protected-wildlife material, or medicines. Selling such items may be restricted or illegal; check the law where you are.
7. Other websites
Links such as "Sold listings on eBay" open third-party websites that we don't control and aren't affiliated with. Their terms and prices are theirs.
8. Your photos and notes
Your photos and notes stay yours. You let us send the photos you choose to scan to our server and AI provider, only to produce your result (see the Privacy policy). Only scan photos you have the right to use.
9. Acceptable use
Don't misuse ThriftHound or its server: don't try to get around scan limits or the subscription, reverse-engineer or overload the service, or use it to build a competing dataset or service.
10. Availability
Scanning needs an internet connection and depends on our server and AI provider. We can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or discontinue features, with notice in the app where we reasonably can.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ThriftHound is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties. We aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss from relying on an identification, value estimate, mark reading or check. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for ThriftHound in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your consumer rights.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, except where your country's law gives you mandatory consumer protections.
13. Changes and contact
We'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Questions: hello@thrifthound.app.
